Dewald Brevis Joins CSK for Remainder of IPL 2025 in ₹2.2 Cr Deal
CSK Signs Dewald Brevis for ₹2.2 Crore as Replacement for Injured Gurjapneet Singh
Struggling Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have pulled off a major mid-season signing by bringing in South African prodigy Dewald Brevis for the remainder of IPL 2025, replacing injured pacer Gurjapneet Singh. Brevis, often hailed as the next AB de Villiers, joins the five-time champions for ₹2.2 crore, despite a base price of just ₹75 lakh in the IPL 2024 auction.
CSK had one overseas slot open, which they have now filled with one of the most explosive young T20 batters in world cricket. At just 21, Brevis has already garnered global attention for his aggressive strokeplay, and has previously featured for Mumbai Indians in the IPL, as well as in the SA20 and Major League Cricket (MLC).
Having played 81 T20s with a strike rate nearing 145, Brevis comes into the IPL in red-hot form. He was among the top 10 run-scorers in the SA20 earlier this year, finishing with the highest strike rate (184.17) among them. His recent run with the Titans in both List A and first-class cricket further bolstered his case.
This move is expected to inject fresh energy into a CSK side that is currently languishing at the bottom of the points table, with just two wins at the halfway stage of the season. Brevis becomes CSK’s second replacement signing this year, following the addition of Ayush Mhatre, who replaced regular captain Ruturaj Gaikwad.
CSK will be hoping Brevis can make an immediate impact as they prepare for a high-stakes clash against arch-rivals Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium on April 20.
