Doechii Delivers Fiery BET Awards Speech Amid LA Protests: “We Must Stand Against Hate”

While accepting her Best Female Hip Hop Artist award at the 2025 BET Awards, Doechii turned the spotlight toward escalating protests outside the venue and condemned the government’s use of military force.

Los Angeles, June 10:
Amid flashing lights, red carpet glamour, and electrifying performances, the 2025 BET Awards took a sharp political turn when rising star Doechii delivered a fiery and emotional acceptance speech that echoed far beyond the walls of the Peacock Theater.

The rapper and singer, who won Best Female Hip Hop Artist, took the stage not only to celebrate her musical success but also to speak truth to power — directly addressing the ongoing protests in Los Angeles and what she described as a dangerous shift in the political climate.

“As much as I am honored by this award, I do want to address what’s happening right now outside of the building,” Doechii began, referencing the protestors demonstrating against immigration raids and police brutality just blocks away. “There are ruthless attacks that are creating fear and chaos in our communities in the name of law and order.”

Her remarks drew loud applause from inside the theater and quickly reverberated across social media. Doechii went on to sharply criticize former President Donald Trump’s decision to deploy military forces in response to the peaceful demonstrations.

“Trump is using military forces to stop a protest,” she said. “I want you all to consider what kind of government it appears to be when every time we exercise our democratic right to protest, the military is deployed against us. What type of government is that?”

Doechii’s impassioned plea didn’t stop there. With deliberate resolve, she used her platform to extend solidarity to multiple marginalized communities.

“People are being swept up and torn from their families,” she continued. “And I feel it’s my responsibility as an artist to use this moment to speak up for all oppressed people — for Black people, for Latino people, for trans people, for the people in Gaza.”

Her words struck a chord, elevating the awards ceremony from a celebration of Black excellence to a moment of cultural reckoning. “We all deserve to live in hope and not in fear. And I hope we stand together, my brothers and my sisters, against hate, and we protest against it.”

As the audience erupted in cheers, social platforms lit up with messages of praise for Doechii’s courage and clarity. Many hailed her as a voice of conscience in an era of rising authoritarianism and state violence.

In a year where politics and pop culture are increasingly intertwined, Doechii’s BET Awards speech stands as a powerful reminder that artists are not just entertainers, but also changemakers.
