El Clasico Showdown Set for Copa del Rey 2024–25 Final as Barcelona, Real Madrid Clash for Glory

Spanish football’s fiercest rivalry returns in the Copa del Rey final on April 28 at Sevilla’s Estadio La Cartuja. Injury-hit giants Barcelona and Real Madrid gear up for their third El Clasico this season, with silverware, legacy, and pride on the line.

Sevilla, April 25 – Spanish football is gearing up for a historic clash as FC Barcelona and Real Madrid face off in the Copa del Rey 2024–25 final this Sunday at Estadio La Cartuja in Sevilla.

Organized by the Royal Spanish Football Federation, the Copa del Rey is Spain’s premier domestic cup competition. This season’s final brings together two of the biggest football clubs in the world, renewing the rivalry in what will be the third El Clasico of the season.

Barcelona stormed into the final after a thrilling 5–4 aggregate win over Atletico Madrid, despite a mounting injury list. Key players Robert Lewandowski and Alejandro Balde are ruled out due to hamstring injuries, while Marc Casado remains sidelined with a knee issue. Still, the Catalan club, currently leading the La Liga table, will look to continue their unbeaten El Clasico run this season, having defeated Real Madrid 4–0 in La Liga and 5–2 in the Supercopa final.

Real Madrid, sitting second in La Liga, edged past Real Sociedad 5–4 on aggregate in the semis. However, they also face fitness setbacks. Defenders Dani Carvajal and Eder Militao are out, and star signing Kylian Mbappé is doubtful with an ankle concern.

The clash will mark the 259th meeting between the two clubs. Real Madrid leads the all-time tally with 106 wins, while Barcelona has 102, with 51 draws. In terms of Copa del Rey titles, Barcelona holds the record with 31, while Real Madrid has claimed the trophy 20 times, last lifting it in 2023 after a Rodrygo-inspired 2–1 win over Osasuna.

Rodrygo’s brace in that final, set up brilliantly by Vinícius Jr., secured Madrid’s third trophy of the 2022–23 season. The match was marked by swift counterattacks, resilient defending, and moments of individual brilliance.

As fans around the world tune in for this monumental final, all eyes will be on whether Barcelona can extend their dominance or Real Madrid can script a revenge win and bring home their 21st Copa title.
