Elon Musk Declares War on Trump’s Spending Bill: “KILL THE BILL” Call Sparks Political Storm

After resigning from his White House advisory role, Elon Musk fiercely criticizes Trump’s massive spending legislation, calling it the “Debt Slavery Bill” and urging Americans to act before a $5 trillion debt ceiling hike is approved.

Washington, DC [US], June 5: Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk has launched a blistering attack on former ally US President Donald Trump’s flagship spending bill, calling on Americans to mobilize and demand Congress to “KILL the BILL.” The dramatic appeal comes just days after Musk stepped down from his post as a “special government employee” leading the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), a Trump-era initiative tasked with identifying and eliminating excessive government programs.

Musk, who served in the administration for 130 days, has pivoted sharply from insider to chief critic, accusing the Trump-backed legislation of steering the nation toward financial ruin. In a fiery post on X (formerly Twitter), Musk warned, “America is in the fast lane to debt slavery,” and demanded a fresh, fiscally responsible bill be drafted — one that does not grow the deficit or raise the national debt ceiling by an unprecedented $5 trillion.

“Call your Senator, call your Congressman. Bankrupting America is NOT okay! KILL the BILL!” Musk posted.

In another pointed message, he wrote, “This spending bill contains the largest increase in the debt ceiling in US history! It is the Debt Slavery Bill.”

The spending legislation, which passed narrowly in the House of Representatives last month, includes sweeping tax cuts and a dramatic boost in military spending. While it secured overwhelming Republican support with only three GOP dissenters, Democrats opposed it unanimously. The Senate is expected to debate the bill within the next week.

Musk’s opposition has rattled Republican lawmakers, particularly as he has poured hundreds of millions into supporting GOP congressional campaigns. His statement that he will “fire all the politicians who betrayed the American people” in the midterm elections has sent tremors through Capitol Hill, especially among vulnerable incumbents facing primary challenges.

The billionaire’s shift from public servant to activist has placed him at the center of a growing conservative split. His warnings of “debt slavery” and threats to defund disloyal politicians have energized both libertarian-leaning Republicans and fiscally conservative independents.

The White House, meanwhile, has responded with notable restraint. Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt told reporters, “President Trump is already aware of Mr. Musk’s concerns. This is one big, beautiful bill, and he’s sticking to it.”

Trump remains committed to finalizing the bill by July 4, aiming to frame it as a patriotic leap forward for American strength and prosperity. However, with the bill proposing a $4 trillion increase in the U.S. borrowing limit, Treasury Department officials have warned of severe consequences if the limit is not raised by August — including the possibility of America’s first-ever sovereign debt default.

As tensions escalate, the coming weeks will test not only the durability of Trump’s legislative ambitions but also the political clout of Elon Musk, now wielding his influence from outside the government halls.
