Situated at around 6,000 feet, Kasauli is nestled in the lower hills, making the drive scenic and relatively easy. The route is dotted with popular eateries, including Murthal, famous for its dhabas. We stopped at Haveli, known for its welcoming vibe, hygienic food, and clean facilities. However, be prepared for tolls, totaling around Rs 350 one way, and a few roadworks. Once you enter the hills, the fresh air and breathtaking views set the mood for a fantastic journey.
One of Kasauli’s best qualities is its tranquility. The area is under the jurisdiction of the Indian Air Force, which limits unchecked construction and helps preserve its natural beauty. With clean air, scenic surroundings, and well-maintained streets, it feels like a breath of fresh air. The town’s Mall Road is car-free, allowing you to explore on foot without hassle.
Kasauli offers a range of accommodations, from luxury resorts to cozy Airbnbs and mid-range hotels around Mall Road. We stayed at Baikunth Resorts, but there are many options like Kasauli Resorts, Glenview, Alasia, Ramada, and Ros Common. You can even rent entire villas for longer stays, perfect for a month-long retreat.
Kasauli is ideal for walking enthusiasts, with scenic trails throughout the town. A must-try is the 6 km walk to Manki Point, which includes a 15-minute uphill climb to a beautiful Hanuman temple with stunning views. The western side of town offers another fantastic walk to Sunset Point, where you can enjoy panoramic valley views.
From street food to fine dining, Kasauli caters to every palate. The town offers a variety of options, including wood-fired pizzas, momos, and multi-cuisine restaurants serving Italian, Tibetan, Chinese, Indian, and Mughlai food. You’ll also find some of the best sandwiches around.
Kasauli is famous for Lawrence School Sanawar, which has educated many notable personalities. Alumni include Sanjay Dutt, Saif Ali Khan, and Omar Abdullah. Its connection to Bollywood and politics adds to its charm, making it a popular getaway for the rich and famous.
Kasauli’s breathtaking views are perfect for photography enthusiasts. Every corner offers a picture-perfect moment, whether you’re capturing the valley or snapping selfies. Many films and songs have been shot here, showcasing the area’s natural beauty.
Manki Point, a popular destination for Hanuman devotees, holds great religious importance. It is believed that Hanuman stopped here while searching for the Sanjeevani herb. The temple, perched on a hilltop, offers an unparalleled view and a sense of tranquility. Another must-visit is the historic British-era church, where visitors often light candles.
While Kasauli lacks big stores and shopping malls, you’ll find plenty of stalls and kiosks selling trinkets, household items, and souvenirs. Haggling is common here, and you can find unique keepsakes to remember your trip.
Kasauli’s peaceful environment and scenic views have attracted affluent individuals who have built stunning homes here. A walk through Lower Mall will give you a glimpse of these elegant, sprawling houses, offering a unique blend of natural beauty and architecture.
So, if you’re looking for a relaxing retreat filled with natural beauty, tranquility, and charm, Kasauli should be at the top of your list for your next extended weekend!
