The 2025 World Happiness Report ranks Finland as the happiest nation, while India sees a slight improvement in its position but still lags behind conflict-ridden countries.

March 20, 2025: Finland has once again been ranked as the happiest country in the world, maintaining its top position for the eighth consecutive year in the 2025 World Happiness Report. The report, released on the UN’s International Day of Happiness, evaluates over 140 countries based on resident feedback and key factors like social support, health, freedom, generosity, perception of corruption, and GDP.

Finland achieved an average score of 7.74, reflecting its strong social support systems, high standard of living, and deep connection with nature.

“They’re wealthy, healthy, socially connected, and enjoy a good work-life balance,” said Jan-Emmanuel De Neve, a professor at the University of Oxford and an editor of the World Happiness Report.

India’s Position: A Small Gain, but Still Behind Conflict Zones

India has improved its ranking from 126 in 2024 to 118 in 2025, but still lags behind war-torn nations like Ukraine, Mozambique, and Iraq.

Strengths: India scored well in social support, reflecting the country’s strong community bonds and joint-family culture.
Weaknesses: India ranked low on personal freedom, indicating limited individual choices and life satisfaction.
