
Finland Remains World's Happiest Country for 8th Year, India Climbs to 118th in Happiness Rankings
March 20, 2025: Finland has once again been ranked as the happiest country in the world, maintaining its top position for the eighth consecutive year in the 2025 World Happiness Report. The report, released on the UN’s International Day of Happiness, evaluates over 140 countries based on resident feedback and key factors like social support, health, freedom, generosity, perception of corruption, and GDP.

Finland achieved an average score of 7.74, reflecting its strong social support systems, high standard of living, and deep connection with nature.
“They’re wealthy, healthy, socially connected, and enjoy a good work-life balance,” said Jan-Emmanuel De Neve, a professor at the University of Oxford and an editor of the World Happiness Report.
India has improved its ranking from 126 in 2024 to 118 in 2025, but still lags behind war-torn nations like Ukraine, Mozambique, and Iraq.
✅ Strengths: India scored well in social support, reflecting the country’s strong community bonds and joint-family culture.
❌ Weaknesses: India ranked low on personal freedom, indicating limited individual choices and life satisfaction.

🔻 Afghanistan is the unhappiest country due to severe social and political instability, particularly affecting women’s rights.
🔻 Sierra Leone and Lebanon followed as the 2nd and 3rd unhappiest nations, struggling with conflict, poverty, and economic turmoil.
✅ Nordic countries continue to dominate happiness rankings due to strong governance and quality of life.
✅ Costa Rica and Mexico entered the top 10, showing that happiness isn’t just about wealth but also social well-being.
✅ India improved its ranking but still struggles with freedom and quality-of-life factors.
As global happiness trends shift, the focus on mental well-being, governance, and economic stability remains crucial for countries striving for a better quality of life for their citizens.
