FBI calls it a “targeted terror attack” against Jewish people during a pro-Israel demonstration; authorities identify 45-year-old suspect Mohamed Sabry Solima.
June-2, 2025: A horrifying incident unfolded in Boulder, Colorado, on Sunday when a man hurled firebombs at a crowd, injuring several people. According to the FBI, the suspect shouted “Free Palestine” as he launched the attack at a demonstration remembering Israeli hostages still held in Gaza.

The FBI identified the attacker as 45-year-old Mohamed Sabry Solima and labeled the assault a “targeted terror attack.” Colorado Attorney General Phil Weiser said it appeared to be “a hate crime given the group that was targeted.” Police said the suspect has been taken into custody and is currently receiving medical treatment.
“This was a beautiful Sunday afternoon in downtown Boulder on Pearl Street and this act was unacceptable,” Boulder Police Chief Stephen Redfearn said. “Our thoughts are with the victims, their families, and everyone involved in this tragedy.”
Witnesses described a scene of chaos and fear. Brooke Coffman, a 19-year-old University of Colorado student, recounted seeing four women with burns, one of them wrapped in a flag as bystanders tried to help. “Everybody is yelling, ‘get water, get water,’” she said.
The incident comes at a time of heightened tension in the United States over the Gaza war, which has led to a rise in antisemitic hate crimes and sparked fierce political debate. While pro-Palestinian protests have grown across US campuses and cities, critics led by former President Donald Trump have branded them antisemitic, calling for crackdowns and funding cuts to universities that allow such demonstrations.

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer condemned the attack as “horrifying” and called for a united stand against antisemitism. Colorado Governor Jared Polis also posted that it was “unfathomable” for the Jewish community to face such violence again.
The incident follows last month’s fatal shooting of two Israeli embassy employees in Washington, DC, further polarising the debate in the US.
Police Chief Redfearn said the exact motive is still under investigation, but there is no doubt that the violence left “multiple injuries, ranging from very serious to more minor.”
