Five Injured in Shooting at Adult Education Center in Sweden
February 4, 2025: Five people were injured in a shooting at an adult education center in Orebro, Sweden, on Tuesday. According to the Associated Press, police responded to reports of serious violence at Campus Risbergska, an educational institution for adults aged 20 and above. The extent of the victims’ injuries remains unclear, and authorities have not confirmed whether a suspect has been apprehended.

Campus Risbergska, located 200 kilometers west of Stockholm, offers courses for Swedish immigrants, vocational training, and programs for people with intellectual disabilities. Students and staff were evacuated from parts of the campus, while others sheltered in nearby buildings for safety. Nearby schools were also locked down as a precautionary measure.
Justice Minister Gunnar Strömmer described the situation as “very serious” and stated that the government is closely monitoring developments. The police have classified the case as an “attempted murder, arson, and aggravated weapons offense.”

Lena Warenmark, a teacher at the school, reported hearing around 10 gunshots. Meanwhile, Andreas Sundling, a 28-year-old on campus, recounted, “We heard three bangs and loud screams. We’ve barricaded ourselves and are waiting to be evacuated.”
Emergency responders, including ambulances and rescue services, arrived swiftly, and Orebro University Hospital confirmed the admission of four patients from the incident. Local hospitals have cleared emergency rooms to prepare for additional casualties.
Although school attacks are rare in Sweden, recent years have seen similar tragic incidents. In March 2022, two teachers were fatally stabbed at a high school in Malmo, while another stabbing involving a student and teacher occurred in Kristianstad earlier the same year.
