Foreign Affairs Expert Robinder Sachdeva Backs India’s Pakistan Import Ban, Calls for Global Boycott

May 4, 2025: Foreign affairs expert Robinder Sachdeva has voiced strong support for India’s recent ban on imports from Pakistan, describing it as a necessary and strategic decision in the interest of national security. He urged not only Indian citizens but also the global community, including the Indian diaspora, to join in a collective boycott of Pakistan.

Calling the move impactful, Sachdeva stated, “This is exactly the right step. We must now amplify the message—Boycott Pakistan. With the Indian government leading the way, it’s time for the people of India and the world to stand together in isolating Pakistan. Such a global boycott will strike a blow to Pakistan’s trade, weaken its economy, and tarnish its international image. There should be no new investments or partnerships with Pakistan.”

Sachdeva also highlighted India’s growing diplomatic footprint, particularly in the Global South, noting the symbolic significance of Angola assuming the chairmanship of the African Union. “Angola leading the African Union reflects India’s increasing outreach and influence in the Global South. Our ties are strengthening, and many African nations now share India’s global outlook—especially on issues like terrorism and dealing with states like Pakistan. This sends a strong message,” he said.

India’s Ministry of Commerce and Industry announced on May 3 an immediate prohibition on the direct or indirect import and transit of all goods originating from or exported by Pakistan. The government cited national security and public policy as the reasons behind the decisive move.

The ban follows a surge in tensions between India and Pakistan after a tragic attack in Pahalgam that claimed the lives of 26 tourists. The Indian government has emphasized that any exception to the ban will require prior approval, signaling a firm stance on the matter.
