Freddie Flintoff Unveils Healed Face, Announces Candid Disney+ Doc Exploring Life After Top Gear Crash
London, April 12 — Former England cricket star and Top Gear presenter Andrew “Freddie” Flintoff has shared a striking new photo of his healed face, marking the announcement of his upcoming Disney+ documentary Flintoff, which premieres April 25 in the UK and Ireland.
Flintoff, 46, was seriously injured during the filming of BBC’s Top Gear in 2022 when he was involved in a high-speed crash while driving a Morgan Super 3. The accident left him with multiple facial injuries and broken ribs, and the experience left an indelible mark on his physical and emotional well-being. He was reportedly trapped inside the vehicle for 45 minutes before being rescued.
In the upcoming documentary, Flintoff opens up about the impact of the crash, his long road to recovery, and how cricket — the sport that defined his early career — helped shape his identity through both triumph and trauma.
“Cricket’s always been a massive part of my life, shaping who I am,” Flintoff said in a statement while promoting the documentary. “Looking back on the highs and the lows, including the challenges I’ve faced since my accident, has been a real reminder of why my career in the sport has meant so much.”
While Top Gear was officially shelved after the accident, Flintoff quietly returned to TV last year with the second season of Field of Dreams, where he mentored underprivileged youth through cricket. That series also included his first on-screen reflections about the crash and his ongoing recovery. It followed a group of boys on a life-changing cricket trip to India.
The BBC previously issued an apology to Flintoff and reportedly reached a settlement of £11 million. The star has spoken about experiencing flashbacks and nightmares as a result of the traumatic incident.
With Flintoff, Disney+ promises a deeply personal look into the life of a sports icon who faced adversity not just on the pitch, but in front of millions. The film aims to tell a story of resilience, reflection, and rediscovery.
The documentary Flintoff will stream exclusively on Disney+ starting April 25.
