Indian wrestler Vinesh Phogat is set to compete against the United States’ Sarah Ann Hildebrandt in the final of the women’s 50kg wrestling category at the Paris Olympics.
Vinesh secured her spot in the final after a dominant 5-0 victory over Cuba’s Yusneylis Guzman Lopez in the semi-finals. This achievement marks Vinesh as the first Indian woman to reach the Olympic final in wrestling.
Phogat’s final match against Hildebrandt is scheduled for 12:30 AM IST on Thursday.
India’s Avinash Sable will also be competing on Thursday, participating in the 3000 Metre Steeplechase final, starting at 1:13 AM IST. Sable earned his place in the final after clocking 8:15.43s to finish fifth in the qualification round, behind Morocco’s Mohamed Tindouft, Ethiopia’s Samuel Firewu, Kenya’s Abraham Kibiwot, and Japan’s Ryuji Miura.
Additionally, Jyothi Yarraji will compete in the Round 1 of the Women’s 100 Metres hurdles, while Abdulla Aboobacker and Praveen Chithravel will participate in the Men’s Triple Jump qualification rounds.
