“Gravely Alarmed”: World Leaders Respond to U.S. Bombing of Iran’s Nuclear Sites
June 22, 2025: The world responded with a mix of alarm, condemnation, and strategic praise after U.S. President Donald Trump confirmed airstrikes on three Iranian nuclear sites on Sunday. The move, which has dramatically intensified tensions in the Middle East, has drawn sharp reactions from global leaders and institutions, raising fears of a wider regional conflict.

President Trump broke the news via his Truth Social account, stating that U.S. military forces had bombed the Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan nuclear facilities in Iran. The strikes mark the most direct American military action against Iranian nuclear infrastructure in recent history.

Israel, Washington’s closest ally in the region, was quick to praise the operation.
“Congratulations, President Trump. Your bold decision to target Iran’s nuclear facilities with the awesome and righteous might of the United States will change history… History will record that President Trump acted to deny the world’s most dangerous regime the world’s most dangerous weapons,” Netanyahu said in a recorded statement.
The UN Secretary-General struck a starkly different tone, warning of grave global consequences:
“I am gravely alarmed by the use of force by the United States against Iran today. This is a dangerous escalation in a region already on the edge – and a direct threat to international peace and security. There is no military solution. The only path forward is diplomacy. The only hope is peace.”
Venezuela condemned the U.S. strikes outright, accusing Washington of acting under Israeli influence:
“Venezuela firmly and categorically condemns the bombing carried out by the United States military, at the request of the State of Israel, against nuclear facilities in Iran.”
Mexico urged restraint and emphasized the need for peace:
“The ministry urgently calls for diplomatic dialogue… The restoration of peaceful coexistence among the states of the region is the highest priority.”
Cuba echoed Venezuela’s sentiment, describing the action as a breach of international law:
“We strongly condemn the US bombing of Iran’s nuclear facilities… The aggression seriously violates the UN Charter and plunges humanity into a crisis with irreversible consequences.”
With U.S.-Iran tensions now spilling into direct military action, global leaders are scrambling to contain fallout. While Israel lauds the move as a game-changer, nations like Mexico, Cuba, and Venezuela fear that the strikes will trigger a cascade of destabilizing events across an already volatile region.
