Guwahati To Host First-Ever Test Match Against South Africa In November, Confirms BCCI Secretary

March 24, 2025: In a historic move, Guwahati is set to host its first-ever Test match as part of the upcoming home season of Indian cricket. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Secretary Devajit Saikia confirmed that the second Test between India and South Africa will be held at the Assam Cricket Association (ACA) Stadium from November 22 to November 26, 2025.

This marks a significant milestone as it will be the first time a Test match is being hosted in the northeastern region of India. The development is especially important for the cricketing landscape in the Northeast, as it brings international cricket to a region that has long been waiting for such a moment.

India’s 2025-26 home season will also feature a two-match Test series against the West Indies in October, followed by a multi-format series against South Africa. In addition to the Test series, the South Africa series will include five T20Is and three ODIs, all of which are part of the 2025-27 World Test Championship (WTC) cycle.

Saikia also highlighted that Guwahati would play a major role in hosting the ICC Women’s ODI World Cup, set to take place between September 24 and November 2, 2025. Guwahati is one of the five venues chosen to host matches for the prestigious tournament, further cementing the city’s growing importance in the world of cricket.
