Heart-Wrenching Plea Highlights Balochistan’s Crisis of Enforced Disappearances

May 14, 2025: A powerful and emotional video released by the Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC) has brought renewed focus to the ongoing human rights crisis in Balochistan, where enforced disappearances continue to devastate families.

In the viral clip, a grief-stricken mother from Turbat is seen clutching the Holy Quran as she pleads for the return of her forcibly disappeared son, Naeem Bashir. With desperation in her voice, she cries out, “For the sake of the Holy Quran, return my son.” The plea, shared widely across social media, has sparked outrage and sorrow.

The BYC emphasized that this mother’s cry is not an isolated one, but a reflection of the collective suffering of the Baloch people, who have endured decades of systemic oppression. Naeem Bashir, a college student, was reportedly abducted by Pakistani security forces on February 5, without any legal process, arrest warrant, or trial.“No arrest warrant. No legal process. No court. No trial,” stated the BYC. “We reject this erasure. We reject this oppression, where mothers must carry the Holy Quran to appeal to humanity.”

The committee labeled these abductions as war crimes, carried out under the veil of global indifference and media silence. Despite the lack of international attention, the BYC vowed to continue speaking out and resisting the silence imposed on their community.

Enforced disappearances are a long-standing issue in Pakistan, particularly in regions like Balochistan. Victims—often students, activists, and dissenters—are taken without legal justification, held incommunicado, and subjected to torture, indefinite detention, or worse. These actions are frequently justified under the pretext of national security or counterterrorism.

The lack of accountability and media coverage has allowed these abuses to continue with little resistance from the global community. For the Baloch people, these are not rare occurrences, but part of a widespread campaign to silence and marginalize them.

As the mother’s plea echoes across the world, the BYC hopes it will stir international conscience and amplify the call to end enforced disappearances in Pakistan.
