Heavy Rains In Kerala, Weather Office Issues Orange Alert In 7 Districts
June 29, 2025: As the heavy rains continue to batter Kerala, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for seven districts in the state. The alert covers Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Idukki, Thrissur, Malappuram, and Wayanad, warning residents of very heavy rainfall expected throughout the day.
An orange alert by IMD indicates rainfall between 11 cm to 20 cm, raising concerns about potential flooding, landslides, and disruption to daily life. The monsoon season has already caused widespread waterlogging and roadblocks in various parts of Kerala, and authorities have urged people to stay alert and take necessary precautions.
Local administration teams have been put on standby, ready to respond to emergencies, especially in flood-prone and hilly areas such as Idukki and Wayanad. Citizens have been advised to avoid unnecessary travel and remain updated with weather forecasts.
The continuing heavy rains are part of the southwest monsoon pattern, which has been active across South India, bringing both relief and challenges to the region. With more rainfall expected in the coming days, residents are urged to remain vigilant and follow safety guidelines issued by the authorities.
