India’s star cricketer Shubman Gill expressed his joy at watching Rishabh Pant score his first half-century and century since returning from a serious injury.
Pant, playing in his comeback series after a near-fatal road accident in 2022, scored a 109-run knock off 128 balls in the second innings of the first Test against Bangladesh. His innings was laced with 13 fours and 4 sixes before being dismissed by Mehidy Hasan Miraz.
Speaking at the post-match press conference, Gill shared how satisfying it was to see Pant’s hard work pay off.
Gill, who also had an exceptional knock of 119* off 176 balls, expressed that he had seen Pant put in significant effort during his recovery, and this achievement gave both him and Pant a great sense of satisfaction.
India, with a massive lead of 432 runs, declared their innings at 287/4, setting a target of 515 for Bangladesh. As the third day’s play concluded, Bangladesh were at 158/4, with Najmul Hossain Shanto (51) and Shakib Al Hasan (5) unbeaten on the crease.
Jasprit Bumrah and Ravichandran Ashwin were the key bowlers for India, picking up crucial wickets to keep Bangladesh in check.
