Lahore [Pakistan], February 17: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) officially launched the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 with a grand opening ceremony at Lahore Fort on Sunday, setting the stage for the much-anticipated tournament. The event, held at Dewan-e-Khas, successfully raised excitement ahead of the tournament’s opening match between hosts Pakistan and New Zealand on February 19.

The historic Lahore Fort was illuminated in stunning lights, symbolizing the grandeur and significance of the first Champions Trophy since 2017. As the defending champions, Pakistan is set to reclaim its crown after winning the 2017 edition in England, where they famously defeated India by 180 runs in the final at The Oval, London.

“The ICC Champions Trophy 2025 will return to Pakistan for the first time in 29 years. This tournament is more than just cricket; it is an opportunity to showcase Pakistan’s hospitality and passion,” said Naqvi.

Group Stage & Tournament Format

The Champions Trophy 2025 features eight teams, divided into two groups:

🔹 Group A: Pakistan, India, New Zealand, Bangladesh
🔹 Group B: Australia, England, South Africa, Afghanistan (first-ever appearance in the tournament)

The top two teams from each group will advance to the semi-finals, setting the stage for an intense knockout phase leading to the grand finale.
