ICC Thanks PCB for Hosting Champions Trophy, Calls It a Historic Success
Dubai [UAE], March 13: The International Cricket Council (ICC) has expressed gratitude to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for successfully hosting the ICC Men’s Champions Trophy 2025 and extended its appreciation to the Emirates Cricket Board (ECB) for organizing five crucial matches in Dubai. The tournament, which concluded on March 9, marked Pakistan’s first global cricket event since 1996, making it a historic milestone for the country.
The highly anticipated final at the Dubai International Stadium saw India lift their third ICC Champions Trophy after a thrilling four-wicket victory over New Zealand. The tournament, spanning from February 19 to March 9, showcased world-class cricket across four venues—Karachi, Lahore, and Rawalpindi in Pakistan, with Dubai serving as the co-host for five matches.
ICC Chief Executive Geoff Allardice commended the PCB for its meticulous planning and seamless execution.
“We would like to thank and congratulate the Pakistan Cricket Board for successfully hosting the ICC Men’s Champions Trophy 2025,” said Allardice in an official ICC release.
“As this was the first global multi-team cricket event played in the country since 1996, this event was of huge significance for the PCB. All those involved in renovating the stadiums, preparing the playing surfaces, delivering the matches, and hosting teams and visitors should be very proud of their efforts,” he added.
The ICC also acknowledged the Emirates Cricket Board (ECB) for staging five matches in Dubai, reaffirming UAE’s continued support for ICC events.
“The ICC would also like to thank the Emirates Cricket Board for staging five of the matches in Dubai and continuing to provide great support to the ICC in staging its major men’s and women’s events,” Allardice said.
The Champions Trophy 2025 witnessed massive global engagement, with fans following the matches through television, digital platforms, and live stadium attendance. The tournament reinforced the importance of ICC events in fostering global cricket enthusiasm.
“The tournament once again showed the importance of ICC events, as fans all over the world watched and followed it with great enthusiasm, either at the venues or on satellite and digital channels,” Allardice remarked.
He also extended congratulations to the eight participating teams and praised their performances.
“Thanks to the eight participating teams for making it such a compelling event, and congratulations to India for winning a third Champions Trophy title in a memorable final,” he added.
The successful hosting of the Champions Trophy in Pakistan is a significant step forward for the revival of international cricket in the country. Having last hosted an ICC event in 1996, Pakistan proved its ability to manage a global tournament, enhancing its credibility as a safe cricketing destination.
With the resounding success of the Champions Trophy, cricket fans now look forward to Pakistan potentially hosting more major ICC events in the future.
