IDF Confirms Killing of Hamas Commander Abd al-Hadi Sabah in Targeted Drone Strike

Abd al-Hadi Sabah, key leader behind the October 7 attack on Kibbutz Nir Oz, eliminated in Khan Yunis operation by IDF and Shin Bet.

Tel Aviv [Israel], January 1: The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have confirmed the elimination of Abd al-Hadi Sabah, a senior Nukhba Platoon Commander from Hamas, in a precision drone strike carried out in Khan Yunis, southern Gaza Strip.

Sabah played a key role in the October 7 attack on Kibbutz Nir Oz, where Hamas militants carried out mass killings and hostage abductions. According to the IDF’s official statement, Sabah had been orchestrating multiple attacks against IDF troops throughout the ongoing conflict.

“Abd al-Hadi Sabah, a Nukhba Platoon Commander in the Western Khan Yunis Battalion, was eliminated in an intelligence-based IDF and ISA strike,” the IDF stated via X (formerly Twitter).

The IDF further added, “Sabah—who operated from a shelter in the Humanitarian Area in Khan Yunis—was one of the leaders of the infiltration into Kibbutz Nir Oz during the murderous October 7 Massacre. Sabah also led and advanced numerous terrorist attacks against IDF troops throughout the current war. The IDF and ISA will continue to operate against all terrorists who took part in the October 7 Massacre.”

Coordinated Operations Continue

The 162nd “Steel” Division of the IDF, in collaboration with Shin Bet (Israel’s General Security Service), has been conducting targeted strikes in Jabalia and Beit Lahia to eliminate key figures involved in the October 7 attacks. In these operations, 14 Hamas militants—including six directly tied to the October 7 atrocities—were neutralized.

Background: The October 7 Attack

On October 7, 2023, Hamas launched a coordinated assault on Israel, resulting in the deaths of over 1,200 people and the abduction of more than 250 hostages. An estimated 100 hostages remain in captivity, with fears that many may no longer be alive.

In response, Israel initiated a comprehensive military campaign targeting Hamas infrastructure in Gaza. However, the prolonged conflict has led to significant civilian casualties, with over 45,000 Palestinian deaths reported according to Gaza health authorities.

Regional Escalation

The conflict has widened, with Houthi rebels in Yemen and Hezbollah forces in Lebanon, both backed by Iran, launching attacks on Israel, pushing Tel Aviv into a multi-front confrontation.

The situation remains volatile, with global calls for a ceasefire growing louder amid mounting humanitarian concerns.
