India-Pakistan DGMO Talks Scheduled Amid Renewed Cross-Border Tensions

May 12, 2025: Director General of Military Operations (DGMO)-level talks between India and Pakistan are set to take place on Monday evening, according to official sources. The talks follow a recent exchange between the two DGMOs aimed at de-escalating hostilities along the Line of Control (LoC).

The discussions were originally scheduled for noon on Monday, following a Saturday conversation between India’s DGMO Lieutenant General Rajiv Ghai and his Pakistani counterpart. During that call, the Pakistani DGMO proposed a cessation of hostilities, which led to a temporary halt in cross-border firing and airspace violations starting from 5:00 p.m. on May 10.

Speaking at a joint press conference on Sunday, Lt Gen Ghai detailed the events: “My communication with the Pak DGMO was conducted at 15:35 hrs on Saturday and resulted in cessation of cross-border firing and air intrusions by either side with effect from 17:00 hrs, May 10. We agreed to speak again on May 12 to discuss how to sustain this understanding.”

However, the agreement was quickly violated. “Disappointingly, and perhaps predictably, within hours of the agreement, the Pakistan Army breached the ceasefire with renewed cross-border firing and drone incursions, both last night and into the early hours of today,” Ghai stated. Indian forces responded swiftly and decisively to these provocations, he added.

India has since communicated the violations to Pakistan through an official hotline message. Ghai made it clear that any further violations would be met with forceful retaliation, noting that Army Commanders have been given full operational authority by the Chief of Army Staff.

The press conference also featured remarks from Air Marshal AK Bharti and Vice Admiral AN Pramod, who reaffirmed the tri-service coordination in India’s response to the escalating threat.

The recent uptick in tensions follows the launch of Operation Sindoor on May 7, a retaliatory strike by Indian forces targeting nine terror-related sites in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied-Kashmir. The operation was carried out in response to a brutal terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which claimed the lives of 26 civilians.

As the DGMOs prepare for another round of talks, both sides remain on high alert amid hopes for de-escalation and concerns over renewed aggression.
