IAF aircraft dispatches essential aid including tents, meals, medical kits and power supplies as Myanmar reels under one of its deadliest quakes in decades.

In the aftermath of the devastating 7.7-magnitude earthquake that struck Myanmar and parts of Thailand on Friday, India has stepped in with urgent humanitarian assistance, dispatching 15 tonnes of relief material via an IAF C-130J aircraft from Hindon Air Force Station.

The relief consignment includes:
- Tents, sleeping bags, and blankets
- Ready-to-eat meals
- Water purifiers and solar lamps
- Hygiene kits, gloves, cotton, and bandages
- Essential medicines including paracetamol, antibiotics, syringes, and canulas
- Generator sets to restore critical power infrastructure

💬 PM Modi Responds with Solidarity
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in a post on X, offered condolences and affirmed India’s support:
“Concerned by the situation in the wake of the earthquake in Myanmar and Thailand. Praying for the safety and wellbeing of everyone. India stands ready to offer all possible assistance.”

📍 Ground Situation in Myanmar and Thailand
The earthquake’s epicentre was 16 km northwest of Sagaing in central Myanmar, with tremors felt across the region, including in Kolkata and Imphal in India. The Myanmar junta has confirmed:
- Over 150 dead
- More than 732 injured
- Widespread structural damage including collapsed bridges, temples, and hospitals
Meanwhile in Bangkok, a 30-storey building under construction collapsed, with 8 confirmed dead and dozens feared trapped. Emergency zones have been declared in both Myanmar and Thailand.
🌐 India’s Diplomatic and Humanitarian Outreach
This rapid response underlines India’s growing role in regional disaster diplomacy, continuing its long-standing commitment to assisting neighbours during crises. The Ministry of External Affairs and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) remain on standby for further deployment if needed.
Myanmar junta chief Min Aung Hlaing publicly welcomed foreign aid and said:
“I would like to invite any country, any organisation, or anyone in Myanmar to come and help. Thank you.”
