India Slams OIC's "Absurd" Statement on Pahalgam Attack, Rejects Interference in Internal Affairs
May 06, 2025: India has firmly rejected the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation’s (OIC) recent remarks concerning the Pahalgam terrorist attack, describing the statement as “absurd” and dismissing it as a misguided attempt driven by Pakistan.
Responding to media queries on Tuesday, Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal emphasized that the OIC has no locus standi to comment on India’s internal matters. He said, “The OIC statement, issued at the behest of Pakistan, is absurd in refusing to recognise the facts of the Pahalgam terrorist attack and its cross-border linkages.”
He further criticized the OIC for allowing itself to be used by Pakistan, a country “long engaged in cross-border terrorism,” to issue a self-serving narrative. “We reject the OIC’s interference on matters that are internal to India,” Jaiswal asserted.
The terrorist attack in Pahalgam on April 22, which targeted civilians, was met with global condemnation. However, the OIC issued a statement aligning with Pakistan’s stance, calling for de-escalation and expressing solidarity with Islamabad, as reported by ARY News.
The OIC Group also commended the UN Secretary General’s offer of good offices, urging the UN Security Council and global powers to take “immediate and credible measures” regarding the situation.
Following pressure from the international community, Pakistan had called for an emergency consultation at the United Nations Security Council (UNSC). However, according to sources quoted by ANI in New York, the UNSC members rejected Pakistan’s narrative attempting to label the attack as a “false flag” operation.
Instead, tough questions were reportedly raised about the possible involvement of Lashkar-e-Taiba, a proscribed terror outfit with known ties to Pakistan. There was broad consensus within the closed-door meeting that the attack warranted accountability and condemnation. Some members also pointed to the targeting of tourists based on religious identity.
Notably, no official statement was issued by the UNSC following the closed consultations, underscoring the lack of support for Pakistan’s position.
