May 9, 2025: External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar held a telephonic conversation with UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy on Friday, with their dialogue focused on enhancing cooperation to counter terrorism.

In a post shared on X, Jaishankar stated, “Had a phone call with UK Foreign Secretary @DavidLammy this afternoon. Our discussions centered around countering terrorism, for which there must be zero tolerance.”
The conversation comes at a critical juncture as tensions escalate between India and Pakistan, following the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, on April 22, which left 26 civilians dead and many injured.
In response, India launched Operation Sindoor on May 7, conducting precision strikes against terror infrastructure located in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK). These strikes targeted nine terror camps, including bases linked to Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) and Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT).
The strikes were conducted in a joint operation by the Indian Army, Navy, and Air Force between 1:05 am and 1:30 am on Wednesday, reflecting India’s multi-domain coordinated response.
Further escalation followed on the night of May 8 and 9, as Pakistan Armed Forces launched multiple drone attacks and violated ceasefire agreements along the Western Border and Line of Control (LoC). The Indian Army repelled the attacks effectively and responded with force under the ongoing Operation Sindoor, according to official updates.
The Additional Directorate General of Public Information (ADG PI) confirmed that the drone attacks were neutralised and ceasefire violations were met with a befitting reply. “Indian Army remains committed to safeguarding the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Nation. All nefarious designs will be responded to with force,” the statement read.
Additionally, the Indian Army had intercepted and shot down more than 50 Pakistani drones during a large-scale counter-drone operation along the LoC and International Border earlier on Thursday. These drones were part of a failed attempt to infiltrate Indian airspace using swarm technology.
The latest diplomatic and military actions underscore India’s firm stance on national security and reflect growing international alignment, including with the UK, in counter-terrorism cooperation.
