Himachal Pradesh | July 1, 2025 —
With just 10 days into the monsoon season, Himachal Pradesh is battling relentless rain-triggered disasters — from cloudbursts and flash floods to collapsing buildings and landslides. So far, 23 people have died since June 20 in rain-related incidents, according to the State Emergency Operation Centre.

The crisis deepened on Monday when a five-storey building in Shimla’s Bhatta Kuffar collapsed within seconds. Fortunately, all residents had been evacuated the previous night. However, two adjacent buildings remain dangerously unstable.
The popular hill town has been pummeled by rainfall 34% above normal, recording 135 mm in June — the 21st highest since 1901. Authorities have advised residents and tourists alike to avoid non-essential travel, especially to landslide-prone areas.

Building owner Ranjana Verma confirmed the land had been sliding since Saturday, forcing an overnight evacuation. She blamed unsafe four-lane road construction nearby for weakening the foundation. The building crumbled at 8:15 am on Monday.
“The structure had been in danger for months, but no preventive measures were taken,” she told PTI.
In Mandi, several people were reported missing after a cloudburst triggered flash floods. Meanwhile, in Sikaseri village (Rampur), a cloudburst destroyed homes and livestock, though no human casualties occurred. The village had previously suffered 21 deaths from a similar incident last year.
From June 30 to July 1, IMD forecasts moderate to intense rainfall with thunderstorms in Chamba, Kullu, Shimla, Kangra, Una, Hamirpur, Bilaspur, Mandi, Solan, and Sirmaur.
Delhi NCR:
The southwest monsoon has finally arrived in Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR), two days ahead of schedule. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), light rain and thunderstorms are expected to continue throughout the week, offering much-needed respite from the rising summer temperatures.
While no weather alerts have been issued for Tuesday, residents of Noida, Ghaziabad, Gurugram, and Faridabad should be prepared for intermittent light to moderate showers with occasional thunderstorms.
