Indian Army Successfully Rescues Over 100 People In Puducherry As Cyclone Fengal Made Landfall In The Region
December 1, 2024: In response to the devastating impact of Cyclone Fengal, the Indian Army swiftly mobilized troops from the Chennai Garrison Battalion, operating under the Dakshin Bharat Area, in the early hours of Sunday to assist with rescue operations in the flood-affected areas of Puducherry.
The Indian Army was deployed immediately after the cyclone hit, with its primary mission being to rescue stranded individuals, provide humanitarian assistance, and help restore normalcy in the affected areas.
Army personnel, along with other rescue teams, were involved in evacuating residents from flooded areas, distributing relief supplies, and providing medical aid to those in need.
The heavy rains, strong winds, and floodwaters caused by Cyclone Fengal had significantly affected several parts of Puducherry, causing damage to infrastructure, homes, and communication lines. The Army’s timely intervention was crucial in preventing further casualties and helping those who were stranded.
Flood-affected areas: Troops were deployed in key locations that were submerged by floodwaters. They used boats and other rescue equipment to reach isolated residents and evacuate them to safe shelters.
Relief efforts: The Army provided food, clean drinking water, and medicines to those stranded and displaced by the floods. Medical teams were also set up to offer immediate care and treatment to those injured or affected by the cyclone.
Infrastructure support: The Army also assisted in clearing roads blocked by fallen trees, debris, and damaged infrastructure, enabling emergency services to reach affected areas.
The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), local authorities, and disaster management teams worked closely with the Army in the rescue and relief operations.
The Chennai Garrison Battalion, along with the Dakshin Bharat Area command, ensured coordination between various units to maximize the impact of rescue missions and minimize response time.
As of now, rescue operations are continuing, with additional Army units stationed in the region for ongoing flood relief. The Indian Army has also assured that it will continue its efforts until all affected individuals are safely evacuated and given necessary relief.
The prompt and efficient response of the Indian Army, particularly the Chennai Garrison Battalion, has been vital in saving lives and alleviating the suffering of people in Puducherry in the wake of Cyclone Fengal. Their dedicated rescue efforts have played a key role in ensuring that affected communities receive the support they need during this challenging time.
