Indian Navy Was Ready To Strike Karachi; Kept Pakistani Naval Units Pinned During Operation Sindoor

Vice Admiral Pramod reveals Navy’s offensive preparedness as part of India’s coordinated response to the Pahalgam terror attack, which played a key role in pushing Pakistan to seek ceasefire.

New Delhi | May 12, 2025:
The Indian Navy played a crucial strategic role in Operation Sindoor, the multi-pronged military response following the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, officials revealed on Sunday. Vice Admiral AN Pramod, Director General of Naval Operations, disclosed that India’s naval forces were in full combat readiness, including with strike capabilities aimed at Karachi, compelling Pakistan’s naval units to remain docked or close to their coastline.

Shortly after the terror strike, India’s carrier battle groups, submarines, aviation wings, and surface combatants were deployed across the Arabian Sea. Within 96 hours, the Navy conducted live weapon drills to validate its ability to deliver precision strikes, demonstrating operational readiness and reinforcing deterrence.

“We maintained a deterrent posture, with capacity to strike land and sea targets — including Karachi — at a time of our choosing,” Vice Admiral Pramod said.

Navy’s Forward Presence Forced Pakistani Ships Into Harbour

The presence of Indian naval assets forced Pakistan into a defensive posture, keeping most of its fleet inside ports or hugging the coastline. “Our assets monitored every movement, and our forward deployment neutralized their offensive options at sea,” Pramod added.

He emphasized that the application of force was proportionate, deliberate, and aligned with the coordinated strategy of the Army and Air Force. This integrated military posture, he said, significantly influenced Pakistan’s request for a ceasefire.

Pakistan Warned: Any Further Violation Will Be Met With Force

At a tri-service briefing, Lt. Gen. Rajiv Ghai, India’s Director General of Military Operations, confirmed that Pakistan had been warned of severe consequences if ceasefire violations continued.

Air Marshal AK Bharti from the IAF reiterated that India’s retaliatory airstrikes targeted only military installations, avoiding civilian casualties. He confirmed that after neutralizing the primary terror threats, India faced continued drone assaults, compelling calibrated aerial responses.

“Our response was measured but firm. We struck with precision, avoided collateral damage, and sent a clear message — our fight is with terrorism, not civilians,” Bharti said.
