Indian Women’s Archery Team Secures Quarterfinal Spot at Paris Olympics

The Indian women’s archery team, featuring Bhajan Kaur, Deepika Kumari, and Ankita Bhakat, has secured a direct qualification to the quarter-finals of the archery event at the Paris Olympics. The team achieved a commendable fourth-place finish in the Women’s Archery Ranking Round with a total of 1983 points.

    • Ankita Bhakat finished 11th with a season-best score of 666 points.
    • Deepika Kumari and Bhajan Kaur displayed consistent performances, contributing to the team’s overall success.

Ranking Round Details:

During the ranking round, each archer was required to shoot 72 arrows in two halves of 36 arrows each. Each set consisted of six arrows, and there were six sets per half. The top four seeds earned direct qualification to the quarter-finals.

  • At the end of the first set, Ankita Bhakat was in 22nd place, Deepika Kumari in 51st, and Bhajan Kaur in 52nd.
  • By the third set, the Indian team had climbed to fourth place among 12 teams.
  • The fourth set saw Ankita drop to the 8th spot, while Deepika and Bhajan moved up to 31st and 38th places respectively.
  • By the end of the ranking round, Ankita secured 11th place with an aggregate of 666 points, Deepika finished in 23rd place with 658 points, and Bhajan claimed the 22nd spot with 659 points.

Notable Competitors:

  • South Korea’s Lim Sihyeon set a world record with 694 points, and her teammate Nam Suhyeon achieved a personal best with 688 points, finishing first and second respectively in the women’s rankings.
