Patna (Bihar) [India]: Reacting to the train derailment incident that claimed four lives and injured over seventy people in Bihar’s Buxar district yesterday, Leader of Opposition in the Bihar Assembly Vijay Kumar Sinha expressed grief and said an investigation into the cause of the mishap is underway.
Speaking to media about the incident, Sinha said, “It is a very unfortunate incident, my thoughts and prayers are with the people who lost their lives. I offer my condolences to the bereaved families. The Railway Minister has taken cognizance of this train derailment. Currently, rescue and relief efforts are taking place at the site of the incident.”
“Along with that, we are also working on the provision of compensation for the families of the deceased. The process of investigation into the whole derailment incident is underway. The cause of the accident will become clear after an official report,” he added.
Union Minister of State for Home Nityanand Rai said that as soon as the Home Ministry received the news of the train derailment at Bihar’s Buxar, three teams of National Disaster Response Force were rushed to the spot.
“Three teams of NDRF were rushed to at the spot last night once we received information of the incident. The NDRF teams launched the relief and rescue operation along with the local administration,” Nityanand Rai said speaking to media on Thursday.
Meanwhile, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has described the death of four people in the accident near Raghunathpur railway station in Buxar district as extremely sad and said he is heartbroken by this tragic incident, a statement from the Chief Minister’s Office read.
Nitish Kumar also directed the government officials to make arrangements for proper treatment of those injured in the accident and has prayed to God for their speedy recovery.
The coaches of 12506 North-East Express train originating in Delhi’s Anand Vihar Terminus and on its way to Kamakhya near Guwahati in Assam derailed near Raghunathpur station in Danapur division of the East Central Railway, the Chief Public Relations Officer of Northeast Frontier Railway said.
According to a statement issued by the East Central Railway zone, two trains — Kashi Patna Jan Shatabdi Express (15125) and Patna Kashi Jan Shatabdi Express (15126) — have been cancelled.
At least four persons were killed and around 70 people were injured after 21 coaches of the express train derailed around 9.30 am on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, Union Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said that evacuation and rescue operations had been completed. Union Minister of State for Railways Ashwni Choubey visited the site this morning to inspect restoration and rescue operations.
He said that efforts to restore rail operations is on and an inquiry has begun to ascertain the cause of the mishap. The minister said that the injured are under treatment at AIIMS Patna and out of danger.
