March 31, 2025: Rajasthan Royals captain Riyan Parag has been penalized Rs 12 lakh for his team’s slow over-rate during their IPL 2025 match against Chennai Super Kings on Sunday, March 30, at the ACA Stadium in Guwahati. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) released an official statement on Monday confirming the fine after the Royals breached the IPL’s Code of Conduct.
According to the IPL’s statement, this fine came as a result of the Royals’ failure to maintain the minimum over-rate during the game, making it their first offence of the season under Article 2.22 of the IPL Code of Conduct, which specifically deals with slow over-rate violations.

As this was Rajasthan Royals’ first violation of the season, Parag was slapped with a penalty of Rs 12 lakh. The fine makes him the second captain to be penalized for a slow over-rate offence in IPL 2025, following Mumbai Indians’ Hardik Pandya, who had incurred a similar fine for his team’s slow over-rate in their match against Gujarat Titans.
While Rajasthan Royals managed to secure a thrilling 6-run win over Chennai Super Kings, the fine has drawn attention to the issue of maintaining the required over-rate, especially as the season continues.
