IPL 2025: BCCI To Hold Crucial Meeting Today To Decide Resumption Options, Confirms Rajeev Shukla
May 11, 2025: BCCI Vice President Rajeev Shukla announced that the Board and IPL Governing Council will meet on Sunday to decide the best course of action to complete the suspended Indian Premier League (IPL) season following the India-Pakistan ceasefire.
The IPL was forced to pause on Friday after the ongoing India-Pakistan border tensions escalated, leading to a suspension of 16 remaining matches. This decision came after the deadly Pahalgam terror attack, which saw the loss of 26 innocent lives, and India’s subsequent military retaliation under Operation Sindoor.

Shukla shared that in light of the newly announced ceasefire, the situation had changed, and the IPL officials would now reassess the scheduling of the remaining matches. He stated, “The war has stopped. In the new situation, BCCI office bearers, officials, and IPL Governing Council will discuss the matter tomorrow (Sunday) and take a call. We will see which can be the best schedule to complete the tournament.”
It had previously been speculated that southern cities like Chennai, Bengaluru, and Hyderabad could be considered as potential new venues for the remaining matches due to the security concerns surrounding the ongoing military conflict. However, Shukla clarified that such plans were relevant only when the war was actively ongoing. Now that the ceasefire had been declared, these venues were less of a priority, and further discussions would be held.
Currently, 12 league-stage matches and four play-off-stage matches remain in the tournament. A source close to the IPL revealed that, while there were many options being considered, the picturesque hill station of Dharamsala might be excluded from the venues once the matches resume. The airport in Dharamsala was shut down due to the conflict, and Thursday’s match between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals had to be abandoned mid-game due to security concerns.
Despite initial plans to keep production teams in Bengaluru, Hyderabad, and Chennai during the military crisis, broadcasters have now instructed their teams to stay at all the original IPL venues, indicating that most of them will retain their matches. The source mentioned that the match in Dharamsala could either be rescheduled elsewhere or resumed from where it was interrupted.

Out of the remaining league matches, Ahmedabad is set to host three, with Lucknow and Bengaluru each hosting two. Other venues like Chennai, Delhi, Hyderabad, and Jaipur each have one remaining match. The play-offs, including the final, are scheduled to take place in Hyderabad and Kolkata, with the iconic Eden Gardens hosting the grand finale.
Given the logistical challenges of the situation, many foreign players have already left the country, further complicating the decision-making process regarding the schedule and venue adjustments. The cricketing world now waits for the IPL Governing Council’s final decision on how to resume the tournament under the evolving circumstances.
