Chahal’s Hat-Trick, Iyer-Prabhsimran Heroics Power Punjab Kings to Thrilling Win Over CSK
Chennai, May 1:
A blistering display of wrist spin from Yuzvendra Chahal and composed half-centuries from Shreyas Iyer and Prabhsimran Singh helped Punjab Kings (PBKS) pull off a thrilling four-wicket win over Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the Chepauk Stadium on Wednesday. The win propelled PBKS to second place on the IPL 2025 table with 13 points, while CSK languish at the bottom with just four points from 10 games.
Chasing a target of 191, PBKS got off to a fiery start as openers Priyansh Arya and Prabhsimran Singh smashed 44 runs in under five overs. Though Priyansh fell for a quick 23, Prabhsimran continued his rich form, bringing up his third IPL fifty in just 31 balls with five fours and three sixes.
Captain Shreyas Iyer played the anchor’s role before unleashing an onslaught. His 72 off 41 balls, laced with five boundaries and four sixes, guided Punjab close to the finish line. Despite losing wickets at regular intervals—including Iyer in the 19th over—PBKS chased down the total with two balls to spare, finishing at 194/6.
Earlier, CSK posted a competitive 190 in 19.2 overs, thanks to a sensational 88 from Sam Curran. However, a late collapse triggered by Chahal’s second IPL hat-trick derailed their momentum. The leg-spinner dismissed Deepak Hooda, Anshul Kamboj, and Noor Ahmad in consecutive deliveries, finishing with 4/32 in three overs.
Support also came from Marco Jansen (2/28) and Arshdeep Singh (2/35), who kept the pressure on throughout. CSK’s brief middle-order revival, including a 78-run stand between Curran and Dewald Brevis (32), ultimately fell short of the 200-mark.
This win gives Punjab Kings a strong push toward the playoffs, while Chennai’s playoff hopes are now hanging by a thread.
