IPL 2025: “Collapse From 80/1 to 90/4 Was Unacceptable”: RCB Skipper Rajat Patidar Reflects on Defeat to Delhi

Patidar Admits Batting Misjudgment Cost Them the Match, Praises Tim David and Powerplay Bowling Despite RCB’s Second Consecutive Home Loss

Bengaluru, April 11: Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) captain Rajat Patidar didn’t mince words after his side’s six-wicket loss to Delhi Capitals (DC) in Match 24 of the IPL 2025 at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium on Thursday. He admitted the team misread the pitch and failed to execute with the bat.

“We thought it was a good batting wicket, but we didn’t bat well,” said Patidar in the post-match presentation. “It wasn’t acceptable to go from 80 for 1 to 90 for 4. Everyone had the right intent, but we didn’t assess the situation properly.”

Patidar praised Tim David’s late-innings burst and RCB’s bowling in the powerplay, calling them bright spots in an otherwise disappointing outing.

“Tim’s acceleration was amazing, and the bowling upfront was special. We aren’t focusing on the away record right now—we just need to play good cricket and keep things simple,” he added.

RCB began confidently with Phil Salt’s 37 off 17, but the innings unraveled rapidly. After Virat Kohli (22) and Patidar himself (25) were dismissed in quick succession, the middle order struggled to recover. Tim David’s 37 off 20 balls*, including 32 runs in the final two overs, pushed RCB to 163/7.

However, it wasn’t enough to stop a red-hot Delhi side.

KL Rahul’s unbeaten 93 off 53 balls anchored DC’s successful chase, ably supported by Tristan Stubbs. The duo’s unbroken 111-run partnership ensured Delhi reached 169/4 in 17.5 overs, handing RCB their second consecutive home defeat.

DC’s spinners, particularly Kuldeep Yadav (2/17) and Vipraj Nigam (2/18), were instrumental in stifling RCB during the middle overs.

With this win, Delhi Capitals remain unbeaten and climb to second place in the standings with four wins in four matches. Meanwhile, RCB is left to regroup after another disappointing finish at home.
