DC Clinch Super Over Thriller as Starc, Stubbs Shine in Nail-Biting Win Over RR
New Delhi, April 17: In a sensational encounter at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi Capitals held their nerve to defeat Rajasthan Royals in a Super Over thriller, marking the first Super Over of IPL 2025. Mitchell Starc’s brilliant final over and Tristan Stubbs’ ice-cool finish ensured DC clinched victory after both teams finished level at 188.
Needing 9 runs in the final over, RR seemed to have the upper hand, but Starc conceded only 8, forcing a Super Over. Batting first in the tie-breaker, Riyan Parag and Shimron Hetmyer took strike for RR against Starc, managing 11 runs despite losing two wickets to run-outs.
In reply, KL Rahul and Tristan Stubbs made light work of the target, sealing the win in just four balls off Sandeep Sharma.
Delhi Capitals’ innings was built on solid middle-order contributions. After a brisk start from Abhishek Porel (49 off 37) and KL Rahul (38), Axar Patel smashed 34 off 14 balls, supported by Stubbs’ unbeaten 34 off 18. The hosts posted a competitive 188/5 in 20 overs. Jofra Archer was the pick of the RR bowlers, taking 2/32.
Chasing 189, RR got off to a flying start with Sanju Samson and Yashasvi Jaiswal dominating the powerplay. Jaiswal brought up a fluent 51 off 36 balls, while Nitish Rana added 51 off 28, guiding the innings after Samson retired hurt.
However, Starc’s dismissal of Rana in the 18th over and a tight final over restricted RR to a tie, forcing the Super Over.
With this thrilling win, Delhi Capitals climbed further in the IPL 2025 points table, while Rajasthan Royals were left ruing missed chances—especially in the field.
