Shubman Gill’s unbeaten 61 and Washington Sundar’s explosive 49 headline Gujarat Titans’ dominant win after Mohammed Siraj’s fiery 4/17 rattles Sunrisers Hyderabad
Hyderabad, April 7: Gujarat Titans (GT) continued their winning momentum in IPL 2025 with a dominant seven-wicket win over Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on Sunday. While Mohammed Siraj’s fiery 4/17 dismantled SRH’s batting lineup, it was Shubman Gill (61)* and Washington Sundar (49) who sealed the deal with a blistering 90-run stand.
Put into bowl first, GT’s bowling attack fired on all cylinders, restricting a faltering SRH to 152/8 in their 20 overs. Despite a brief middle-order resistance from Nitish Kumar Reddy (31) and Heinrich Klaasen (27), wickets kept tumbling, largely thanks to Siraj’s precision and pace.
GT’s chase got off to a shaky start with Sai Sudharsan (5) and Jos Buttler (0) falling early to Mohammed Shami and Pat Cummins. However, skipper Gill and all-rounder Sundar, playing his first IPL game for GT, shifted momentum with attacking flair. They reached the 50-run mark in just 6.3 overs and brought up a 90-run partnership in no time.
Sundar narrowly missed out on a half-century, falling for 49 off 29 balls, but Sherfane Rutherford (35 off 16)* ensured a quick finish alongside Gill, who remained unbeaten on 61 off 43 balls, laced with nine boundaries. GT chased the total down with 20 balls to spare, finishing at 153/3 in 16.4 overs.
Earlier in the day, Siraj’s early breakthroughs, including his 100th IPL wicket, reduced SRH to 45/2 in the powerplay. Though Cummins provided a late flourish with a 9-ball 22*, it wasn’t enough to push SRH to a competitive total.
Prasidh Krishna (2/25) and Sai Kishore (2/24) also supported Siraj with vital breakthroughs in the middle overs.
🔹 Brief Scores:
Sunrisers Hyderabad: 152/8 (Nitish Reddy 31, Klaasen 27; Siraj 4/17)
Gujarat Titans: 153/3 in 16.4 overs (Shubman Gill 61*, Sundar 49, Rutherford 35*; Shami 2/28)
With this win, GT move up to second on the points table with three wins in four matches, while SRH continue to struggle, slipping to bottom place after their fourth straight loss.
