Gujarat Titans End Mumbai Indians’ Winning Run with Rain-Affected DLS Victory at Wankhede

Mumbai, May 7: Gujarat Titans (GT) snapped Mumbai Indians’ (MI) six-match winning streak with a nervy 3-wicket win via the DLS method in a rain-interrupted IPL 2025 clash at the Wankhede Stadium on Tuesday.

Set a target of 156, GT chased their way through drizzle and drama to finish at 132/6 in 18 overs — just ahead of the par score when rain returned. With this win, GT leapfrogged to the top of the points table.

GT captain Shubman Gill led from the front with a composed 43 off 46 balls, anchoring the chase. Despite losing Sai Sudharsan early to Trent Boult, Gill stitched a valuable 72-run partnership with Jos Buttler (30) to keep GT on track.

Sherfane Rutherford’s explosive cameo (28 off 15) tilted the game in GT’s favour before rain paused play again. Though GT briefly fell behind the par score, timely contributions from Shahrukh Khan, Rahul Tewatia, and Rashid Khan helped them recover.

Jasprit Bumrah was lethal again, picking up 2/19 and rattling the middle order, while Boult and Ashwani Kumar also claimed two wickets apiece.

Mumbai’s Middling Total

Earlier, MI were restricted to 155/8 despite a strong start. Will Jacks, who was dropped on zero, punished GT with a 53-run knock off 35 balls. He added a quickfire 50-run stand with Suryakumar Yadav (35 off 24) to take MI to 89/2 at halfway.

However, GT’s bowlers struck back as Sai Kishore (2/34) removed Suryakumar and skipper Hardik Pandya (1), while Rashid Khan got the big wicket of Jacks. MI’s middle and lower order faltered, though Corbin Bosch (27 off 22) offered some resistance in the death overs.
