IPL 2025: Gujarat Titans Crush SRH by 38 Runs, Climb to Second Spot on Points Table

Clinical all-round performance from GT, including Gill’s 76 and Buttler’s 64, secures sixth win; SRH falter in steep 225-run chase despite Abhishek Sharma’s explosive 74.

Ahmedabad, May 2: Gujarat Titans (GT) delivered a commanding performance to defeat Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) by 38 runs in Ahmedabad on Friday, securing their sixth win of the IPL 2025 season and climbing to second on the points table. Riding on a powerful batting display and disciplined bowling, GT now sit just behind table-toppers Mumbai Indians, separated only by net run rate.

Opting to bat first after losing the toss, GT piled up a massive 224/6 at the Narendra Modi Stadium. The innings was anchored by captain Shubman Gill, who scored a scintillating 76 off 38 balls, and Jos Buttler, who hammered 64 off 37. Sai Sudarshan also impressed early with a brisk 48 off 23 balls. GT crossed the 100-run mark inside nine overs and maintained a high run rate throughout.

SRH’s bowlers struggled to contain the onslaught, with Jaydev Unadkat emerging as the pick of the lot, bagging 3/35 in four overs. Zeeshan Ansari and Pat Cummins took one wicket each, but the Titans’ aggressive batting ensured a target of 225 was set—one of the highest totals this season.

In reply, SRH started brightly as Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma went after the GT pacers in the powerplay, scoring 45 in just four overs. However, Prasidh Krishna drew first blood, dismissing Head for 20, thanks to a spectacular diving catch by Rashid Khan.

Abhishek continued the charge, reaching his half-century in style and finishing with a superb 74 off 40 balls. But wickets kept tumbling at the other end. Heinrich Klaasen (23) and Ishan Kishan (13) failed to convert their starts, and a late flurry from Nitish Reddy (27*) couldn’t salvage the chase as SRH managed just 186/8 in 20 overs.

Gujarat’s bowlers stepped up when it mattered most. Mohammed Siraj struck in quick succession in the death overs, while Rashid Khan and Gerald Coetzee maintained pressure throughout the middle stages. Though GT was penalised for a slow over rate late in the game, it didn’t affect the outcome as SRH fell well short.

This defeat adds to SRH’s struggles, leaving them at ninth on the points table with just three wins from ten matches. GT, on the other hand, look well poised for a strong playoff push as the league phase approaches its final stretch.
