Harshal Patel’s Heroics and Ishan Kishan’s Grit Power SRH to Crucial Win Over CSK
Chennai, April 26: Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) carved out a gritty five-wicket victory over Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in their IPL 2025 clash on Friday, thanks to a stellar four-wicket haul by Harshal Patel and determined knocks from Ishan Kishan and Kamindu Mendis.
With this result, SRH leapfrogged to eighth place on the points table, boasting three wins from nine games, while CSK continued their struggles, anchored to the bottom with just two wins in nine matches.
Clinical Bowling Sets the Tone
Electing to bowl first after winning the toss, SRH delivered a disciplined bowling performance. Mohammed Shami set the tone early by dismissing Shaik Rasheed for a golden duck. Harshal Patel then took center stage, dismantling CSK’s middle order with figures of 4/28, including the crucial scalps of Sam Curran, MS Dhoni, and Dewald Brevis.
Brevis, the bright spot for CSK, entertained the Chennai crowd with a blazing 42 off 25 balls, peppered with four sixes. However, consistent strikes by Pat Cummins, Jaydev Unadkat, and Kamindu Mendis ensured CSK were bowled out for 154 in 19.5 overs, despite some late resistance from Deepak Hooda (22).
SRH Steady in Choppy Chase
Chasing 155, SRH’s innings had a rocky start with Abhishek Sharma falling early. Ishan Kishan and Travis Head briefly steadied the ship before Head was cleaned up for 19. Ishan continued to anchor the innings with a composed 44 off 34 balls, featuring five boundaries and a six.
Despite losing wickets at regular intervals — including Heinrich Klaasen and Aniket Verma — SRH found key partnerships when it mattered most. Kamindu Mendis (32* off 22 balls) and Nitish Kumar Reddy (19* off 13) applied the finishing touches, guiding SRH home with 8 balls to spare.
Noor Ahmad’s 2/42 was a silver lining for CSK’s bowling attack but ultimately wasn’t enough to prevent another loss.
Brief Scores:
CSK: 154 all out in 19.5 overs (Dewald Brevis 42, Ayush Mhatre 30; Harshal Patel 4/28)
SRH: 155/5 in 18.4 overs (Ishan Kishan 44, Kamindu Mendis 32*; Noor Ahmad 2/42)
