IPL 2025: LSG’s Explosive Batting Powers Them To 238/3 Against KKR

Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) fans were treated to a power-packed batting display as they posted a mammoth 238/3 in their 20 overs against defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on Tuesday at Eden Gardens, Kolkata.

LSG’s aggressive approach was spearheaded by Aiden Markram, Mitchell Marsh, and Nicholas Pooran, who all contributed fiery knocks to set a daunting target. After being put in to bat by KKR following the toss, LSG had a steady start, reaching 59/0 at the end of the powerplay, with Markram (36*) and Marsh (21*) at the crease.

The batting duo took charge in the next few overs, attacking KKR’s bowlers, especially Spencer Johnson, and brought up the 50-run mark in 5.2 overs. They didn’t let up, continuing their aggressive intent, and by the 10-over mark, LSG was cruising at 95/0.

The partnership between Markram and Marsh ended at 99 runs, after Harshit Rana removed Markram for 47 off 28 balls, which included four boundaries and two sixes. Marsh, however, carried on with his assault, reaching his fourth fifty of the season in just 36 balls, including four fours and three sixes.

Despite KKR’s attempts to slow things down, LSG’s middle order continued the onslaught. Marsh and Pooran wreaked havoc on the spinners, including Varun Chakravarthy and Sunil Narine, adding 16 runs off the 12th over and another 16 off Chakravarthy’s final over. Pooran then brought up his 2,000 IPL runs and also reached his third fifty of the season in just 21 balls, smashing six sixes and two fours.

In the death overs, Pooran’s blistering knock saw him finish unbeaten on 87 from 36 balls, including seven fours and eight sixes. He played an especially destructive over against Andre Russell, who conceded 24 runs in an over.

Although Russell struck back, removing Marsh for 81 off 48 balls (six fours, five sixes), LSG continued to punish the KKR bowlers, finishing on 238/3 with David Miller contributing 4* in the final overs.

For KKR, the bowlers had a tough outing, with Harshit Rana being the pick, claiming 2/51 in four overs. Spencer Johnson also had a forgettable day, giving away 46 runs in just three overs, while Andre Russell took 2/32 in his two overs. Narine and Varun Chakravarthy were ineffective, failing to claim any wickets and giving away 69 runs between them in their combined seven overs.

LSG’s total of 238/3 is a challenging one, and KKR will need a monumental chase to level the playing field.
