IPL 2025: MS Dhoni Fights Till the End but CSK Fall Short by 25 Runs Against Dominant Delhi Capitals
April 5, 2025: MS Dhoni’s Late Fight in Vain as Delhi Capitals Outclass Chennai Super Kings by 24 Runs in IPL 2025
Chennai Super Kings suffered a 24-run defeat at the hands of Delhi Capitals at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Saturday, marking another setback in their IPL 2025 campaign.
Chasing 184 for victory, CSK finished at 158/5, with MS Dhoni unbeaten but unable to turn back the clock. The veteran’s presence at the crease brought some nostalgia for fans, but the intent from CSK’s middle order, especially in the death overs, fell short of what was needed.
Earlier in the match, DC opener KL Rahul anchored the innings with a composed 77 off 51 balls, helping the team reach 183/6 in their 20 overs. Despite early wickets, Rahul held the innings together while Abhishek Porel added a brisk 33. Khaleel Ahmed stood out for CSK with figures of 2/25 in his four overs.

In reply, CSK lost Rachin Ravindra early, and despite contributions from Conway and Jadeja, they could never find the momentum. Devon Conway, Shivam Dube, and Vijay Shankar all got starts but failed to capitalize. The turning point came in the middle overs when DC spinners Kuldeep Yadav and young Vipraj Nigam applied the squeeze and claimed crucial wickets.
Vipraj Nigam impressed with 2/27 while Mitchell Starc was economical upfront. Though Dhoni struck a six late in the game, CSK needed a miracle in the final overs, requiring over 70 runs in the last 5 overs—a task they could not manage.

This win marked DC’s first-ever win over CSK at Chepauk since 2010, ending a 15-year jinx. With this result, DC continue their unbeaten run, while CSK will need to reassess their combination and approach moving forward in the season.
