SRH slump to ninth in IPL 2025 points table as Klaasen-Manohar stand fails to salvage another poor start; MI cruise to fourth straight win
Hyderabad, April 23: Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) skipper Pat Cummins expressed disappointment after his team succumbed to their sixth defeat of the IPL 2025 season, going down to Mumbai Indians (MI) by seven wickets at home. With just two wins in eight matches, SRH now sit precariously at ninth place on the points table.

Reflecting on the team’s poor outing, Cummins admitted SRH “never got going” after losing five wickets for just 35 runs in 8.3 overs. Despite a brilliant 99-run rescue partnership between Heinrich Klaasen (71 off 44) and Abhinav Manohar (43 off 27), SRH could only muster 143/8, which MI chased down with ease in 15.4 overs.
“Never got going. After a couple of wickets, you have to find a way to steady the ship. Couldn’t do that,” Cummins said during the post-match presentation.
Cummins Praises Klaasen-Manohar Effort
The captain was full of praise for the middle-order duo for giving SRH something to bowl at.
“Klaasen and Abhinav did well for us to get to a total. That was one positive from the game.”
“Need Smarter Batting,” Says Cummins
Addressing the pitch conditions, Cummins stressed it wasn’t the surface but poor decision-making that led to SRH’s collapse.
“You’re allowed to bowl a good over, but you’ve got to build your innings. It’s about assessing conditions. We didn’t do that well today.”
A Tale of Two Extremes
Drawing attention to SRH’s wildly fluctuating performances, Cummins remarked:
“We got 280-plus in the first game and then folded for much less in the next. That’s T20—you don’t know what’s coming next.”
Road Ahead
With a string of away fixtures ahead, Cummins said SRH must adapt quickly to conditions and regroup.
“We’ve got some travel now. The key will be to assess wickets early and find a way to execute better.”

SRH were reeling at 35/5 before Klaasen and Manohar’s fightback.
Trent Boult starred with the ball for MI, picking 4/26, supported by Deepak Chahar (2/12).
Rohit Sharma’s 70 and Suryakumar Yadav’s 40* anchored a smooth chase, with MI reaching the target in 15.4 overs.
With this, MI moved to third place on the points table with 10 points from 9 matches.
SRH, on the other hand, now face a must-win situation in every upcoming fixture to keep their playoff hopes alive.
