IPL 2025: “One Hell of a Game”: Santner Hails ‘Crazy’ Hat-Trick of Run-Outs in MI’s Thrilling Win Over Delhi Capitals

Mitchell Santner calls Karun Nair’s 89 “special” and credits Karn Sharma’s crucial breakthroughs in MI’s dramatic 12-run IPL 2025 victory at Arun Jaitley Stadium.

New Delhi, April 14: In what could easily be dubbed one of the most dramatic finishes of IPL 2025, Mumbai Indians clinched a 12-run win over Delhi Capitals at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, thanks to a stunning hat-trick of run-outs in the final over and a spirited performance from Karun Nair, who dazzled with 89 off just 40 balls.

After the tense finale, MI all-rounder Mitchell Santner described the ending as “crazy” and lauded fellow spinner Karn Sharma for shifting the momentum in Mumbai’s favour.

“Nice to get over the line. Every game seems to be close in IPL. This was one hell of a game here in Delhi. It’s crazy to finish off with three run-outs,” Santner said. “Karun Nair’s innings was special. First game this season and he went after our best bowlers.”

🎯 A Finale to Remember: 3 Run-Outs in 3 Balls

  • With 15 needed off 9 balls, Ashutosh Sharma had just smashed Bumrah for two boundaries.
  • On the next ball, a sharp throw by Will Jacks from the deep ran out Ashutosh.
  • Kuldeep Yadav followed him the very next delivery, run out by Raj Bawa’s laser throw to Ryan Rickelton.
  • Santner himself sealed the deal with a direct hit from cover to run out Mohit Sharma, scripting a 12-run win.

“We were kind of behind for a bit, and then managed to get right back. The bowling coach was pretty happy. To nail six in a row in an over was amazing,” added Santner.

🔥 Karn Sharma’s Middle Overs Magic

It was Karn Sharma’s spell that sparked Delhi’s collapse after they were cruising at 119/1:

  • Dismissed Abishek Porel (33) to break the key stand with Nair.
  • Removed Tristan Stubbs (1) and KL Rahul (15) in quick succession.
  • Ended with match-turning figures of 3/36.

“Getting three wickets by Karn was massive; it was the only way to slow them down. The spinners who have bowled defensively have done well this tournament,” said Santner.

💔 Nair’s Heroics in Vain

Returning to the IPL fold, Karun Nair lit up the capital with an audacious 89 off 40 balls, smashing 12 fours and 5 sixes. He brought up his half-century in just 22 deliveries and looked set to finish the chase before being dismissed in the 12th over.

📊 The Bigger Picture

  • MI now have 2 wins from 6 games, jumping to 7th on the table.
  • DC, previously unbeaten, slipped to second place after this unexpected collapse.
  • The final-over drama and MI’s fightback under pressure have re-ignited their campaign.

Brief Score:

Delhi Capitals 193 all out in 19 overs (Karun Nair 89; Karn Sharma 3/36, Santner 2/43)
Result: Mumbai Indians won by 12 runs

Mumbai Indians 205/5 (Tilak Varma 59, Suryakumar Yadav 40; Kuldeep 2/23)
