March 24, 2025: Visakhapatnam: Rishabh Pant’s much-anticipated debut as Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) skipper in IPL 2025 turned into a forgettable affair as the star batter was dismissed for a six-ball duck. After a blistering foundation laid by Mitchell Marsh (72 off 34) and Nicholas Pooran (75 off 32), LSG’s innings crumbled in the final overs, ending at 209/8 against Delhi Capitals (DC).
Pant, who was bought for a record ₹27 crore at the IPL mega auction, walked in with massive expectations but couldn’t get going. His dismissal sparked a middle-order collapse that Delhi eagerly capitalized on, especially with the likes of Kuldeep Yadav (4-0-20-2) and Mitchell Starc (4-0-39-3) turning the tide.

Earlier, LSG looked set for a total well over 220, thanks to Marsh’s power-packed half-century and Pooran’s assault, which included four sixes in an over off part-timer Tristan Stubbs. But Marsh’s dismissal in the 12th over opened the door for Delhi, and Pant’s failure only made matters worse for Lucknow.
To make things tougher, LSG were without their four premier Indian pacers — Mayank Yadav, Mohsin Khan, Avesh Khan, and Akash Deep — all bought for a combined ₹34.75 crore. With none of them fit to play, it added pressure on the bowling lineup to defend a tricky total.

David Miller’s late fireworks — two sixes in the final over — helped LSG cross the 200-run mark, but from a commanding 161/2 in 13 overs, the end tally felt underwhelming.
Meanwhile, KL Rahul missed the game due to the birth of his child with Athiya Shetty — a personal milestone celebrated by fans and teammates alike.
With Delhi needing 210 to win, the game is set up for a thriller, but Pant’s debut blues and LSG’s injury woes have already raised concerns about the team’s season trajectory.
