Nicholas Pooran’s explosive 70, Mitchell Marsh’s classy fifty, and Shardul Thakur’s four-wicket haul help LSG chase down 191 with ease in just 16.1 overs.
Hyderabad, March 28: In a clash brimming with fireworks at the Uppal Stadium, Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) roared back in style with a commanding five-wicket win over Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the 2025 IPL.
Riding on explosive half-centuries from Nicholas Pooran (70 off 26) and Mitchell Marsh (52 off 31), and a brilliant bowling spell by Shardul Thakur (4/34), LSG chased down SRH’s total of 190/9 in just 16.1 overs.
SRH’s famed batting line-up faltered under pressure, failing to hit the high notes they’ve been known for this season. Despite Travis Head’s 47 and Aniket Verma’s late blitz (36 off 13), Thakur’s four-wicket burst ensured the hosts were kept in check.
Chasing 191, LSG suffered an early setback losing Aiden Markram for just 1. But Pooran and Marsh turned the tables quickly, hammering 116 runs off just 43 balls. Pooran reached his fifty in just 25 balls, smashing six sixes and four boundaries, while Marsh played the perfect partner with a composed half-century.
Despite a minor stutter after both fell in quick succession and Rishabh Pant (15) failed to convert his start, Abdul Samad (22 off 8)* and David Miller (13)* ensured LSG crossed the finish line without further drama.
Earlier, Thakur dismantled SRH’s top order and returned later to complete his 100 IPL wickets, making a strong case for being LSG’s bowling spearhead. Debutant Prince Yadav and Ravi Bishnoi also made key contributions, while SRH skipper Pat Cummins showed late fight with three consecutive sixes before falling for 18 off four.
With this win, LSG continue to assert their dominance, while SRH will need to rethink strategies ahead of their next outing.
🔢 Brief Scores:
SRH 190/9 (Travis Head 47, Aniket Verma 36; Shardul Thakur 4/34)
LSG 193/5 in 16.1 overs (Nicholas Pooran 70, Mitchell Marsh 52; Pat Cummins 2/29)
A clinical chase, a four-wicket haul, and a 100-wicket milestone — it was a night to remember for Lucknow.
