IPL 2025: Rohit Sharma’s Fiery 70 Anchors Mumbai Indians’ Commanding Win Over SRH

MI climb to third spot on IPL 2025 table with emphatic 7-wicket win as Rohit, Surya shine; Boult, Klaasen star in gripping contest

Hyderabad, April 23:
Rohit Sharma led from the front with a blistering 70 off 46 deliveries as Mumbai Indians (MI) cruised to a seven-wicket victory over Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in their IPL 2025 clash at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium. The win marked MI’s fifth triumph of the season, lifting them to third place on the points table.

Chasing 144 for victory, MI overcame an early hiccup, losing Ryan Rickelton cheaply. However, Rohit stitched a crucial 64-run stand with Will Jacks, followed by a fluent 53-run partnership with Suryakumar Yadav, anchoring MI’s run chase.

Rohit’s Vintage Touch

Rohit, who has faced criticism for inconsistent form, silenced doubters with his second consecutive half-century, cracking 8 boundaries and 3 sixes. His controlled aggression set the tone for MI’s clinical chase. He was dismissed for 70 by Eshan Malinga but by then had set the platform for a comfortable win.

Suryakumar Yadav (40* off 19) applied the finishing touches in style, slamming a boundary to seal the win in just 15.4 overs, alongside Tilak Varma (2*).

Klaasen-Abhinav Stand Rescues SRH

Earlier, SRH recovered from a catastrophic 35/5, thanks to a gutsy 99-run partnership between Heinrich Klaasen (71 off 44) and Abhinav Manohar (43 off 27). Klaasen’s knock featured 9 fours and 4 sixes, helping the hosts reach 143/8 after being in deep trouble.

Trent Boult starred with the ball for MI, registering 4/26, while Deepak Chahar (2/12), Jasprit Bumrah (1/28), and Hardik Pandya (1/22) provided solid support.

Key Moments:

  • Boult struck early, dismissing Head, Abhishek, and Reddy inside the powerplay.
  • MI dominated the chase, thanks to Rohit’s fluency and Surya’s explosive finishing.
  • SRH scored 53 runs in the last 5 overs, salvaging a modest total from a shaky start.

Points Table Impact:

This win takes Mumbai Indians level on points with Gujarat Titans (12 pts) and boosts their net run rate, firmly placing them in playoff contention.

SRH, despite Klaasen’s brilliance, slumped to another defeat and now face an uphill battle to stay in the race.

Next fixtures:

SRH take on Royal Challengers Bengaluru in a must-win match at home.

MI will face Chennai Super Kings next at Wankhede.
