With tensions easing along the border, the BCCI is exploring an immediate resumption of the suspended IPL season, likely by Thursday or Friday next week.

After a turbulent week that saw the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 suspended due to cross-border military escalation between India and Pakistan, peace talks and a formal ceasefire agreement have paved the way for the league’s return. IPL Chairman Arun Dhumal has confirmed that the BCCI is now exploring the possibility of resuming the tournament as early as next week.

“Ceasefire has just been announced. We are now exploring how to resume and conclude the IPL immediately,” Dhumal told The Indian Express. “We need to work out venue availability, dates, and logistics. Discussions with franchise owners, broadcasters, and, most importantly, the government will be held before finalizing plans.”
According to The Times of India, the BCCI is targeting a resumption by Thursday or Friday, depending on logistical feasibility and security clearance. The abrupt suspension had prompted many foreign players to return to their countries, with franchises now initiating recall efforts in anticipation of restart guidelines from the BCCI.
“Overseas players were understandably anxious—not about the league, but about potential airport closures and airspace restrictions. That triggered the panic,” a source close to the situation told TOI.

Meanwhile, BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia confirmed that a revised schedule and updated venues for the remainder of the tournament will be announced soon, once a full assessment is conducted in consultation with relevant stakeholders and government bodies.
The suspension followed India’s precision missile strikes on terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and PoJK as part of Operation Sindoor, conducted in retaliation for the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 civilians.
With the situation stabilizing, fans can now expect the return of IPL action sooner than anticipated.
