Captain Shreyas Iyer praises team synergy and execution after PBKS crush Lucknow Super Giants by eight wickets in IPL 2025 clash at Ekana Stadium
Lucknow, April 2: Punjab Kings (PBKS) continued their blazing start to IPL 2025, securing their second consecutive win as skipper Shreyas Iyer led from the front with a commanding half-century in their eight-wicket triumph over Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at the Ekana Stadium.
Following the victory, Iyer praised his team’s overall performance and unity.
“This is the start we required. Boys actually played their roles well… whatever we planned, they executed it to the fullest,” Iyer said at the post-match presentation.
“All teams have the potential to win. You just need to have the mindset of wanting to win — that is what we always talk about.”
🔥 PBKS Chase Down 172 with Ease
Chasing 172, PBKS lost Priyansh Arya early, but a blistering 69 from Prabhsimran Singh, followed by Shreyas Iyer’s unbeaten 52 and Nehal Wadhera’s 43 off 25 balls*, ensured they crossed the line with 22 balls to spare.
Iyer remained grounded despite his match-winning knock.
“I always try to be in the present. This innings is history for me now. I just want to focus on the next one.”
🏏 LSG Falter Despite Middle-Order Fightback
Opting to bat first, LSG were rattled early at 35/3, but Nicholas Pooran (44) and Ayush Badoni (41) stitched a crucial stand. A late flourish from Abdul Samad (27 off 12) helped LSG post 171/7.
PBKS bowlers delivered a well-rounded effort, with Arshdeep Singh standing out, grabbing 3/43, while Marco Jansen, Lockie Ferguson, Glenn Maxwell, and Yuzi Chahal chipped in with key breakthroughs.
📈 Points Table Update
- Punjab Kings moved to second place on the table with two wins from two matches.
- Lucknow Super Giants dropped to sixth place, managing just one win in three outings.
With strong performances across departments and their leadership clicking into place, PBKS have firmly announced themselves as early contenders in the tournament. Can they maintain this momentum through the next leg?
