IPL 2025: Sunrisers Hyderabad Outclass Royal Challengers Bengaluru by 42 Runs in Lucknow Thriller

Ishan Kishan’s unbeaten 94 and Pat Cummins’ 3-wicket haul power Sunrisers Hyderabad to a commanding win against Royal Challengers Bengaluru, denting RCB’s momentum late in the IPL 2025 tournament.

Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) delivered a stunning all-round performance on Friday night in Lucknow, defeating Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) by 42 runs in a high-octane IPL 2025 encounter. The victory was anchored by a scintillating unbeaten 94 from Ishan Kishan and a fiery bowling spell from skipper Pat Cummins.

Chasing a daunting target of 232, RCB got off to a blistering start, racing to 72/0 by the end of the powerplay, with Virat Kohli (43 off 25) and Philip Salt (62 off 32) providing early fireworks. However, SRH’s bowling unit, led by Cummins (3/28), clawed their way back with timely breakthroughs and disciplined death-over execution.

Hyderabad’s impact player Harsh Dubey dismissed Kohli right after the powerplay, while Nitish Reddy ended Mayank Agarwal’s brief stay. Cummins then returned to remove the dangerous Salt and later picked up two wickets in the 19th over to cripple Bengaluru’s chase. RCB, despite being 167/3 at one point, lost their final seven wickets for just 22 runs, collapsing to 189 all out.

Earlier in the match, after being put in to bat by RCB stand-in captain Jitesh Sharma, SRH posted a mammoth 231/6 in their 20 overs. The innings was built around Ishan Kishan’s classy 94* off 48 balls — his second major knock of the season — alongside quickfire cameos from Abhishek Sharma (34 off 17) and Aniket Verma (26 off 9).

Travis Head and Heinrich Klaasen added brief but brisk contributions, while Kishan held the innings together with composed aggression, guiding SRH past the 200-run mark with support from the lower order.

RCB’s Romario Shepherd was their standout bowler, taking 2/14 in a rare economical spell, while Lungi Ngidi, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Suyash Sharma, and Krunal Pandya chipped in with a wicket each.

The result shakes up the IPL points table. RCB now sit third with 17 points (8 wins, 4 losses, 1 no result), while SRH climb to eighth with 10 points from 13 matches (5 wins, 7 losses, 1 no result), keeping their playoff hopes alive.
