India’s T20I captain, Suryakumar Yadav, has etched his name in IPL history by becoming the fastest batter to score 4000 runs in the tournament. On Sunday, April 27, during Mumbai Indians’ 10th league match of IPL 2025, Surya crossed this milestone in just 2714 balls, surpassing the previous record held by KL Rahul, who took 2820 balls to reach the same mark.

Suryakumar, who has been in sensational form this IPL season, achieved the feat while playing against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). Needing 33 runs to reach 4000, he hit a boundary on the second ball of the 13th over bowled by Avesh Khan, marking the historic moment. In total, he struck four fours and two sixes, with the first six of his innings helping him reach another personal milestone of 150 sixes in the IPL.

Surya is now the 17th cricketer in the world to reach the 4000-run mark in IPL, and among active players, he becomes the eighth to do so. He is also closing in on Kieron Pollard’s record of 3412 IPL runs for Mumbai Indians, and if he scores 54 more runs in the ongoing match, he will surpass Pollard to become the second-leading run-scorer for the franchise, just behind Rohit Sharma, who has scored 5698 runs for MI.

Suryakumar’s rapid rise in IPL history solidifies his position as one of the most consistent and dynamic players in the league.
