Moscow offers mediation as Iran outlines terms and US alleges Russian support
April 2, 2026: Vladimir Putin has indicated that Russia is ready to play a role in restoring peace amid the escalating conflict involving Iran and the United States. Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said Putin is in continuous contact with regional leaders and is prepared to contribute to efforts aimed at transitioning the military situation toward peace.
Meanwhile, Iran has outlined key conditions for a ceasefire through its envoy to Russia, Kazem Jalali. Speaking to TASS, Jalali listed four primary demands: a complete halt to aggression, credible guarantees against future conflict, full compensation for damages, and recognition of Iran’s legal authority over the Strait of Hormuz. He emphasized that any peace initiative must reflect “realities on the ground” and meet these political and legal requirements.
At the same time, allegations have emerged from US media suggesting Russia may be aiding Iran with intelligence, including satellite imagery and drone technology. US Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth hinted at possible involvement by Russia and China, though without direct confirmation. The Kremlin has strongly denied these claims, calling them “fake news,” as diplomatic tensions continue to rise alongside the conflict.
